Exhibition in the Oldenburg prison

The Hans Ohlms Foundation, the Oldenburg International Film Festival and Oldenburg Prison have joined forces to launch an art initiative aimed at building a bridge between prisoners and society. The exhibition ‘Aufstehen Umdrehen Losgehen’ with works by the artist Hans Ohlms was officially opened on 23 March 24 at 15:00 in Oldenburg Prison.

A special part of the opening was a guided tour of the prison, during which duos of prisoners and attending guests presented their favourite pictures from the exhibition. This approach enabled a direct exchange between the prisoners and the visitors, building bridges of understanding through the art of Hans Ohlms.

‘Our aim is to build a bridge between prisoners and society and to give inmates the opportunity to express themselves and connect with others through art,’ says Ulrich Oettel, spokesperson for the Hans Ohlms Foundation. ‘Through this exchange, we hope to break down prejudices and promote understanding. In particular, the exhibition aims to show how everyone has the right to find new paths in life.’

The collaboration between the Hans Ohlms Foundation, the Oldenburg International Film Festival and Oldenburg Prison emphasises the transformative power of art and its ability to bring people together and bring about positive change.
